Company
Discovery Int’l Geophysics Inc. was established in 1996 through the alliance of two long time industry professionals. Together, Dennis Woods, Ph.D., P.Eng. and Brent Robertson offer over 45 years of experience in providing geophysical services to over 200 industry clients. Since its establishment, the growing success of Discovery can be attributed to the diverse expertise of the principals and the rigorous quality standards applied to data acquisition, processing and integrated interpretation.

By concentrating on the technology, performance and quality expectations of its clients, Discovery’s portfolio of successful projects has grown rapidly. As a consequence, the company now services clients from three permanent offices, Surrey, British Columbia, Lac duBonnet, Manitoba and Springdale, Newfoundland and has expanded its employee base to include five highly skilled full-time personnel, including two geophysicists, and an experienced part-time workforce of more than fifteen personnel. The majority of part-time technicians originate from the province of Newfoundland, where a strong work force resides, highly skilled in mineral exploration technology. Discovery recognizes the importance of competent field personnel and endeavours to reward them with higher wages and other incentives. This approach has lead to low employee turnover and a loyal, dynamic and energetic workforce.

As an independent geophysical contracting company, Discovery is committed to providing impartial advice to clients to ensure that any geophysical surveys undertaken are best suited to their individual requirements with attention to specific problems. The company is streamlined and efficient, maintaining no exorbitant overhead costs and owning most of the instrumentation in use. The best way to serve our clients is by providing the very best quality product for a reasonable, fair price. Discovery’s commitment to safety on the job is exemplified by no lost time injuries since our start in 1996. This amount to over 80,000 man-hours without a lost time injury. We implement safety procedures and guidelines to help reduce to possibility of an accident and encourage personnel at all time that safety comes first.

Typically data processing and interpretation will begin in-field as data becomes available and hard copies are normally made available to clients nightly. All post survey processing is undertaken using a combination of in-house applications and the Geosoft suite of geophysical processing software. To further assist clients, data is electronically forwarded to head office nightly to provide enhanced data interpretation. Final reporting involves innovative procedures to extract the most information from the data as possible. Special care is taken to present the results in a format that can be easily understood by non-geophysical specialists.
